About SA Barrel Horse Association

SABHA is here to support anyone wanting to compete in the sport of Barrel Racing & Pole Bending!

SA Barrel Horse Association supports and encourages all persons whether they are a competitive participant or a beginner - just come out have a go. Barrel racing can be seen at Rodeo’s, Pony Club, western shows, gymkhanas and more, we are a club that supports those wanting to learn the sport. Barrel Racing & Pole Bending are horse and rider combination that competes in a timed event. End of year points are determined how that combination places at each event in relevant classes.  Below is a list of our Divisions (classes).

In 2013 we become affiliated with the Australian Barrel Horse Association (ABHA).

Please take a moment to read our barrel race sections below – any queries direct them to the committee.

Formed in 1998

At the South Australian Barrel Horse Association, were about providing the following for our members:

  1. FUN
  2. Somewhere for people to start and learn about the sport of barrel racing without the Rodeo and expense.
  3. Starting young horses without the hype of Rodeos
  4. To give horses more runs consistently, instead of 3-4 week (rodeo season) between rodeos.
  5. Encourage our young riders and improve on the older ones

SABHA is strongly committed to providing Barrel Racing events that are safe, supportive and friendly for children.

We are committed to working with all involved in Barrel Racing so that children can enjoy the sport and feel safe, valued and encouraged.

Child safety must be embedded in every Australian sporting organisation’s culture, reflected in their policies and procedures, and understood and practiced at all levels of the sport. This includes within SABHA’s own organisation where children come to participate and watch Barrel Racing.

SABHA takes seriously its responsibility to provide an environment that is caring, encouraging and safe for children.

We are committed to keeping children safe

We promote equity and respect diversity
  • We give all children access to information, support and complaints processes.
  • We consider the needs of all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with a disability, LGBTQI children and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
